Ombars are made by Mood Foods. We are a small company started by three friends with an interest in healthy eating and living. On our vibrant living quest we dabbled in all sorts of health-promoting techniques from juice-fasting to colonics. An important part of this journey is the raw food diet - a diet consisting of anything, so long as it's raw. One big problem though in a raw food diet is saying goodbye to chocolate (cocoa beans are traditionally roasted (cooked) and then of course there's the sugar). But fortunately for us, in a tropical cocoa-growing location, some like-minded soul was chomping on the cocoa beans straight from the pod - raw. Not only that, but we were learning that this source-of-all-chocolate unbeknown to the Western chocolate-eating world is a powerhouse of nutritional complexity. Of course, it wasn't long before the opportunity was recognised and pounced upon by the world's raw food community. Chocolate does, after all, make the world go round.
Our own experimentations with dried raw cocoa beans yielded a wealth of new creations - not all edible. Nonetheless, a person's dabblings with cocoa beans can only go so long before the desire to make a chocolate bar becomes too loud to ignore. And there it started; without an ounce of training or knowledge of chocolate production, we had begun. Three years on and these Ombars are the evolved and certainly superior species of chocolate bar. However, they do still retain the original seed of intention that we began with: to make available the natural goodness of the raw cocoa bean in a chocolate bar. Nowadays we've taken this a step further by infusing the chocolate with a wealth of nutritious berries and probiotics.
